General Assistance: disability-related housing and cash support
Oregon Department of Human Services · Shared Oregon or institution-specific route
Interim housing, utility and cash help while qualifying adults pursue SSI.
Confirm current availability: The program has a capped caseload and may have a waitlist; screening is not a funded opening.
How to apply: start, prepare, submit and follow up
Amount or support
Depends on the administering agency’s eligibility and benefit determination.
Start here: Contact a local APD/AAA office and request General Assistance screening.
1. Is this for me?
Adults 18–64 without dependent children, homeless or losing housing within 90 days, meeting severe-disability, OSIPM Presumptive Medicaid and SSI requirements.
Service area: Oregon; confirm program-specific location and institution requirements.
2. What should I prepare?
Some documents may be conditional. Ask about alternatives. Checkmarks are temporary and are not saved or sent.
3. Where and how do I submit?
Read the linked publisher instructions to confirm the receiving office, accepted submission method and current forms. This page has not separately verified those details. A county filter does not decide the correct court or filing location.
- Contact a local APD/AAA office and request General Assistance screening.
- Ask staff to complete a DBL-GA Referral Form (DE4640) to CDDU.
- Complete disability, housing and financial screening and the required SSI application.
- Review/sign the interim-assistance agreement and follow SSI appeal requirements.
Timing: Contact staff promptly if housing will be lost within 90 days.
4. What will it cost?
Details to confirm with the provider
A program-specific cost explanation has not been verified. Ask the provider whether this route has any fees, required contribution or repayment terms, and what cost assistance is available.
5. What happens after I submit?
Details to confirm with the provider
Keep a copy of what you send and its confirmation or receipt. Ask the receiving office how to track it, when to expect a response and how it will request missing information. These follow-up details have not been separately verified for this route.
6. What if something goes wrong?
Details to confirm with the provider
Read any returned filing, correction request or denial notice promptly. Ask the responsible office for the correction, review or appeal instructions and the deadline that applies to your notice. This guide does not verify a route-specific appeal process.
Language, disability and offline help
Ask the receiving office about language assistance, disability accommodations and an alternative to online submission. Available options have not been separately verified for this route.
GA payments can be recovered from the initial SSI lump-sum award. A separate GA application is not required under the 2026 manual. The legacy public GA page redirects to a general overview; this guide uses the current program manual and office referral route.
