Prepare for an Oregon administrative hearing and request access help
Oregon Office of Administrative Hearings · Shared Oregon or applicable federal route
Official practical guide explains administrative hearing preparation, issues, witnesses, documents, interpreter access and what different agency hearings may involve.
Where and how to proceed: prepare, file and follow up
Start here: Read the agency decision and hearing notice to identify the issues and scheduled procedure.
1. Is this for me?
People reviewing the named agency/program decision or assistance route; the agency and current decision notice determine the applicable procedure.
Service area: Oregon or applicable federal route; confirm venue and agency jurisdiction.
2. What should I prepare?
Some documents may be conditional. Ask about alternatives. Checkmarks are temporary and are not saved or sent.
3. Where and how do I submit?
Send evidence, access requests and scheduling requests to the recipient designated in the hearing notice. An initial agency appeal may need to be sent to the agency first.
- Read the agency decision and hearing notice to identify the issues and scheduled procedure.
- Organize relevant records and reliable first-hand witnesses, and follow the notice directions for exchanging documents.
- Tell OAH promptly if an interpreter or participation accommodation is needed; do not assume a friend may serve as the interpreter.
- If a postponement is needed, make the request promptly and continue preparing unless the authorized official grants it.
Timing: Ask about postponement as soon as a conflict is known; only the judge or designated official decides the request. No postponement, evidence-exchange or appeal date is calculated from this general guide.
4. What will it cost?
Interpreter service is described as no cost. A requested witness subpoena may involve witness/mileage fees; verify the procedure and any costs before requesting it. Other costs are unknown.
5. What happens after I submit?
Keep the hearing notice, submitted records and communication log, and read the order appeal-rights section after a decision.
6. What if something goes wrong?
A postponement request is not a granted postponement. Contact OAH promptly if participation or notice details are unclear.
Language, disability and offline help
The guide describes no-cost interpreters, including where a disability prevents active participation. Notify OAH as soon as possible.

Source-navigation review only. Confirm the current accepted form, correct agency, program, decision stage, notice dates, receipt rules and submission route. No eligibility, fee-relief approval, personal deadline or filing-readiness determination is made. General public information is not exhaustive and hearing procedures vary by agency. Current rules, orders and the individual notice take precedence over general descriptions.
